  • WHEREAS, As a group of young adults, these students entered Mont Pleasant High School as freshman in the fall of 1961 ; and
  • WHEREAS, These students “Entered to Learn” Mont Pleasant High School with great apprehension but also with great expectations ; and
  • WHEREAS, As these students became acclimated to High School life they also excelled in all aspects of such, including academics, student activities, and sports ; and
  • WHEREAS, In the annual “Election Day” football game between Mont Pleasant and cross-town rival Linton, the Mont Pleasant squad was victorious for the final 2 school years of the class of 1964, including a game in 1962 which many have called the greatest in the series history, a 14-13 last minute victory over an undefeated and two touchdown favored Linton High School squad led by basketball All American Pat Riley. The following year the Mont Pleasant football squad was also victorious 27-6 and produced its own “football” All American, class of 1964 running back Paul Della Villa ; and
  • WHEREAS, In June of 1964 this group of previously apprehensive 15 year old freshman graduated from Mont Pleasant High School as confident adults to “Go Forth to Serve” by furthering their educations, starting their careers, serving their country and beginning their families ; and
  • WHEREAS, While this graduating class of 1964 were part of one of the most historically turbulent decades of the 20th century, its members were able to withstand the test of time to become successful in their own endeavors as men and women leading into the 21st century;
  • NOW, THEREFORE I, Vincent Riggi, Schenectady City Councilman representing Gary R. McCarthy, Mayor of the City of Schenectady, do hereby proclaim October 4, 2014, as Mont Pleasant High School Class of 1964 Day in the City of Schenectady and wish everyone the very best in the years to come.
